About BattenCalc
BattenCalc is a free wall planning tool built by an independent developer. It helps you compare board and batten spacing and wainscoting layouts before marking and cutting material.
What the calculators do
The board and batten calculator finds equal clear gaps, batten counts and cumulative marks for one straight wall. The wainscoting calculator plans panel widths, stile positions and chair-rail height. Both provide a wall elevation and a stock cut list from the measurements you enter.
Calculation methods and sources
Equal-spacing calculations subtract the actual trim widths and divide the remaining wall into equal openings. The results use the entered dimensions rather than assuming nominal lumber sizes. Inch marks display to the nearest 1/16 inch, while calculations retain their underlying precision.
Stock estimates use first-fit decreasing with separate material widths and profiles, including the selected saw kerf. They are estimates, not a guarantee of globally optimal nesting. Read Calculation Methods & Sources for the formulas, reference links, rounding and editable design presets.
Check the real wall before cutting
These tools plan one straight interior decorative wall. Openings, outlets, hidden services, material movement and construction details need a separate on-site check. Measure your actual stock and verify the layout before cutting; the calculator does not certify an installation.
